Laura & Kim Stilwell

The Stilwell family hails from Indianapolis, Indiana, but has made Quepos, Costa Rica, their home since 2002. They plan to stay for as long as the Lord wants and provides.

Kim accepted Christ in the 1970’s and has been serving Him in some form or another since his new birth. From 1992 – 2002 he served full-time in the youth and children section of a homeless shelter, offering clubs, bible studies, support ministries and a whole bunch of other services to those seeking Christ.

Laura first trusted in Jesus in 1988 and has been growing ever since. Many people helped her in that growth. Raising and homeschooling four children and making sure that Sunday school is running smoothly keeps her growing closer to Christ.

Kim and Laura were married in 1989 and lived in the inner-city of Indianapolis to be close to their passion to serve God in any way possible in the city. They were involved in homeless ministry, children’s clubs, church plants and various other ministries and efforts that helped mature them in Jesus and prepare them for Costa Rica.

In 2000, they began to hear the voice of God calling them to Costa Rica. Not being very well versed in world missions, they had to look up Costa Rica on the map!!! But two years and one baby later, they left Indianapolis and settled in Quepos.

The first year was fairly difficult as they learned to rely on God for everything – friends, acquisition of Spanish, understanding of the culture, introduction to the schools, medical systems, everything. But God has been very faithful to provide them with all they have needed. They can personally sing about the Lord’s goodness to them.

They have four children – Jeremiah, Samuel, Corinne and Gabriel. All of them are bilingual and have lots of friends, both in Quepos and Indianapolis. They are enrolled in the local schools and enjoy the beautiful weather and sense of adventure to be found living here.

They serve the Horizon church plant in Quepos as missionaries and pastor, and will continue to do so as long as the Lord wills. Personally, they enjoy bible studies; opening our home to visitors – for a meal or long term; and traveling and visiting with our friends through this beautiful country He has created.
